H.E. Eng. Saleh Bin Nasser AlJasser - Director General of Saudia – has been elected as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Arab Air Carriers Organization (AACO) for a term of three years, replacing H.E. Mr. Akbar Al Baker – Group Chief Executive of Qatar Airways. During AACO Annual General Meeting (AGM) that was held in Casablanca on 29 November 2016, elections took place to vote for the Chairman and members of the Executive Committee that includes nine members from AACO member airlines’ Chairmen of Board of Directors, Directors General, or CEOs. The Executive Committee is considered as the highest authority in AACO amongst AGM meetings, which are the supreme authority. The Executive Committee supervises AACO’s work strategy in general, and the scope of joint projects between the member airlines in particular.
It is worth noting that AACO has 31 Arab airlines which account for more than 99% of the total air transport capacity in the Arab world, and has more than 1,300 aircraft with an average age of 7 years - equivalent to half the average age of the fleet on the global level. AACO works on several areas including:
- forming and running joint projects among its members,
- representing Arab airlines at the regional and international levels and advocating their interests,
- providing market data and statistics on the global air transport in general and the Arab world in particular,
- raising awareness on the issues affecting the air transport industry through holding forums and conferences, as well as through its Regional Training Center.
AACO AGM in 2015, that took place prior the one held in Casablanca, was hosted by Saudia in Jeddah under the chairmanship of H.E. Eng. Saleh AlJasser.
It should be noted that H.E. Eng. Saleh Bin Nasser AlJasser, is a member of International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Board of Governors, and a member in SkyTeam’s Board of Governors.
