Shell Aviation

Date of becoming Airline Partner in AACO: 2002

With one of the most extensive refuelling networks in the world, Shell Aviation supplies fuel, lubricants, and sustainable solutions in 30 countries. Customers range from the world’s largest airlines to private pilots. At Shell, we understand that operational approaches can significantly impact on the profitable and safe operation of our customers’ businesses. Collaboration helps us to transform complex, operational issues into opportunities, and anticipate the challenges ahead.   Shell has set a target to become a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050.  Shell Aviation is playing a part in achieving this target most critically by supplying SAF to 80 locations across 18 countries, and is one of the world’s largest traders and suppliers of SAF, supplying close to 20% of all SAF in Europe and North America.

Committed to the Middle East Region
Shell Aviation has been active in the Middle East since 1962 starting in Muscat, Oman. Today, customers can refuel with Shell Aviation at various airports in the Middle East and across its global airport network. It provides professional customer service through its dedicated account managers and cross-functional teams based in Dubai, U.A.E, to provide long term support to the region’s unique and fast-growing aviation industry. In 2017, Shell Aviation celebrated its 50th anniversary of operating in Dubai where it currently provides aviation fuels, AeroShell lubricants and services at both airports - Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC). In 2023, Shell Aviation, together with Emirates and Dubai Airports collaborated to deliver SAF, for the first time, into Dubai International Airport’s (DXB) fueling system, enabling Emirates to use SAF for flights operating out of its hub. Shell Aviation has been an industry partner of the Arab Air Carriers Organization since 2002 and is working in close collaboration with key middle eastern airlines to support their sustainability ambitions.

Global Sustainability Efforts
Shell Aviation is actively working across multiple parts of the value chain to support aviation industry’s net-zero ambition. It is taking action to supply SAF safely and securely to its customers globally, including Qatar Airways and Emirates at key airports and hubs across the globe. On top of that, Shell Aviation, launched, with Accenture, Energy Web, and AMEX GBT, Avelia, a leading blockchain-powered book and claim solution with the aim of scaling SAF, reducing the life cycle GHG emissions of aviation, and enabling greater participation in the sector’s decarbonisation efforts by providing wider access to the GHG benefits of SAF across the aviation value chain. Customers seeking to reduce their emissions from business air travel and/or air freight activities can contribute to the SAF premium and claim the environmental benefits in a form of emissions reduction, even if, the physical fuel is not available at their departure airport. SAF will instead be fed in at an airport where it is accessible. Lastly, Shell is also working closely with airlines to support their CORSIA mitigation strategies, enabling the industry’s first large-scale CORSIA retirement of Gold Standard carbon credits by a commercial airline.
