ATR: The optimal choice for short haul route
Toulouse, Southern France-based regional aircraft manufacturer ATR is the reference in the 50 to 74-seat turboprop market. Its ATR 42 and ATR 72 are the perfect solution on short-haul routes around the world. ATR has become the leader in its category by offering a high-performance, reliable, easy-to-maintain and comfortable aircraft to airlines operating on the regional air transport market, at a cost well below that of its competitors. The ATR aircraft have the lowest seat mile costs on short haul routes.

ATR launched, in late 2007, the ATR ‘–600 series’, the latest generation of the ATR family of aircraft. The new ATR 42-600 and ATR 72-600, which will be progressively introduced in 2010, feature the latest technological enhancements, while building upon the well-known advantages of the current ‘–500 series’ aircraft, namely its high efficiency, proven dispatch reliability, commonality and low fuel burn and operating cost. The ‘-600 series’ include, among other innovations, an enhanced cockpit equipped with upgraded avionics instrumentation and new PW 127 M engines with increased power rating.
An important feature of the ATR family is the high degree of commonality between the ATR 42 and ATR 72. They have the same fuselage cross section, use the same basic systems, share the same engines and propellers as well as the same cockpit.

135 operators worldwide currently operate ATRs in about 80 countries. ATR benefits from the experience and know-how of two of the major leading European aerospace industries, Alenia Aeronautica (Finmeccanica group) and EADS, who each have a 50% share in the ATR programme.

ATR reached in 2007 a record year with orders for 113 new aircraft, and posted a turnover of US $ 1.1 billion, an increase of 56%, compared to 2006. Since the beginning of the programme, ATR has sold 953 aircraft (417 ATR 42s and 536 ATR 72s) and has delivered 774 (400 ATR 42s and 374 ATR 72s), thus posting a current backlog of 179 aircraft.

Bombardier Aerospace is the world's third largest civil aircraft manufacturer and the leading manufacturer of regional aircraft. Bombardier Commercial Aircraft provides the best optimized aircraft solution for three distinct markets; short-haul, low/high density medium haul and longer haul. Bombardier Commercial Aircraft products are backed 365/24/7 by Bombardier's worldwide customer support organization which is committed to providing an Amazing Customer Experience.

For lower density, medium to longer-haul markets, the CRJ Series offers exceptional performance, cost efficiency, comfort and market flexibility. With over 1,500 aircraft in service, the CRJ Series is the most successful regional aircraft program and the world’s 5th best-selling commercial jetliner program. The CRJ Series has evolved into the 70-100-seat CRJ NextGen that provides an enhanced passenger cabin and even better economics. The CRJ NextGen now extends to the 100-seat CRJ1000 NextGen which is scheduled to enter service during 2009.

For short-haul markets, the Q Series of turboprops offers excellent performance, durability and outstanding economics. Like the CRJ NextGen, the Q Series has evolved into the 70-80-seat Q400 NextGen with an enhanced passenger cabin and improved economics. The Q400 NextGen offers unmatched high speed performance for a turboprop, a quiet and smooth cabin and the best economics of any regional aircraft. The low noise and greenhouse gas emissions of the Q400 NextGen make it the comfortably, greener choice for regional airlines worldwide.

For denser, longer-haul markets, Bombardier is developing the 110-130 seat C Series family. The C Series will be the game-changer in the 100-149 seat single aisle jet market. The C Series will combine exceptional operational flexibility – short field performance with longer range – with advanced technology, widebody cabin comfort and cash operating costs that are 15% lower than the competition in its’ size class. The very low noise and environmental footprint of the C Series will make it the greenest single-aisle aircraft in its class. The C Series family is being designed to anticipate airline needs for 2013 and beyond.

CFM: The Power of Flight
CFM International (CFM) was formed as a 50/50 joint company between Snecma (SAFRAN Group) of France and General Electric of the United States in mid-1974.  Today, CFM is the world’s leading supplier of commercial transport aircraft engines.

The two parent companies to share everything equally, from design and development to production and support.  Final engine assembly is performed both at GE facilities in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, and at Snecma facilities in Villaroche, France.

The CFM56 product line includes six engine models spanning the thrust range from 18,500 to 34,000 pounds (82 to 151 kN) thrust powering 30 commercial and military applications.

Commercial applications include Airbus A318, A319, A320, and A321 single-aisle aircraft, the long-range, four-engine A340-200 and -300, and the A318 Elite and A319 Corporate Jet; the Boeing Classic 737-300/-400/-500, and 737-600/-700/-800/-900/-900ER and Boeing Business Jet; and re-engined DC-8 Super 70 series aircraft.

Total firm CFM56 orders currently stand at nearly 23,000 engines from nearly 500 customers/operators, of which more than 17,650 have been delivered.  These orders represent more than 55 percent of the 100+ passenger aircraft ordered over the past decade.

In 2007, the company introduced CFM56 Tech Insertion into the CFM56-5B and CFM56-7B fleets. This program incorporates advanced technologies that provide operators with lower maintenance costs, improved oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions, and better fuel burn.  CFM has also defined upgrade kits that will be made these available to current operators in early 2008.

CFM has improved the cooling in the current CFM56 single-annular combustor in order to reduce NOx emissions, providing margin to the new International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Committee of Aviation Environmental Protection CAEP/6 standards that take in 2008.

Snecma and GE have formed one of the most successful aviation joint ventures history, and both companies remain firmly committed to maintaining CFM's position as the industry leader in reliability, durability, and low cost of ownership for many years to come.
